My name is Chris Harper and I am webmaster for 102 ceylon Squadron's new web site. I understand that Ron Houghton flew with 102 and I am hoping that he would contact me so that I can add a page on our site for him and his crew.
If anyone else who flew with 102, or relatives of airmen, would like to get in contact that would be wonderful.
Looking at ORB's and log books I can see that hundreds of RAAF personel flew with 102,it would be an honour to have them represented on the web site.

Vietnam Veterans Education Centre Washington DC

The Australian Government has announced a commitment of $3.3m to this project and veterans organisations are being asked to register interest and submit contributions to this project. Details on the project are contained in the attachment.
An Australian Committee will participate in a US project known as the Vietnam Veterans Education Centre. The US Viet Vets are to build an $80m underground 2 story facility next to the Wall in Wash DC with a planned opening 2014. The facility will be similar in design to the US DDay facility at Normandy.
Australia, to date, is the only other country being asked to display, to this end the Government has allocated $3.3m for research. We intend to ask that NZ be considered along with us noting our ANZAC traditions and the ANZUS Treaty. In broad detail the criteria for the design of the Memorial is:
1. that it be reflective and contemplative in character,
2. that it harmonise with its surroundings, especially the neighbouring national memorials,
3. that it contain the names of all who died or remain missing, and
4. that it make no political statement about the war.
The thought behind the VVEC was that by telling the stories behind every name the Centre would help visitors understand the courage, sacrifice and devotion of those who fell, those who returned and those who waited. “Through interactive exhibits and primary source materials, visitors will be better able to understand the impact the Viet War had on their family members, their home towns, their communities and the nations involved.”

Ref Warrant Officer O, J, Goddard RAAF 421267.

I served with WO Goddard on 514 Squadron,RAF Waterbeach when he was tragically killed on The Nuremberg raid on 31st. March 1944.
He was a good friend of mine and, each year,I arrange for a small wooden cross inscribed with his name to be planted in the Garden of Rememberance of The Royal British Legion.
If possible I would like to let any relatives or friends in Lidcombe, his home town, know that he has not been forgotten and will be very grateful for any such information you may hold
The only information I have is from 1950 when his next of kin lived at 4 Woodburn Road, Lidcombe and was a Mr, O. C. K. Goddard.

Thanks in anticipation,
Ben Woolley.

During WWII my grandparents billeted countless commenwealth flying crew at their home near Northampton in the UK. Many of these were Australian. My grandparents kept an amazing record of those that stayed with them including pictures, service numbers, notes, details of casulties and letters, one even from a prisoner of war camp. All of these details were recorded in a book which I have in my possession. I have been to a number of airfields in this country to try and find more information about these men, but have so far been unsuccesful in locating any surviving men or indeed their families, who I am sure would be interested to hear and see details of their brave relatives. One such chap was Dermot John Hegarty from Pymble in Sydney who was tragically killed in 1944. He made a wonderful impression on my Grandparents as well as my Mother, Auntie and Uncle. I actually know that Dermots plane, whilst flying out of Coningsby airbase, suffered full engine failure at around 1000 feet. Dermot's bravery enabled three of the crew to bail out whilst he battled to keep the plane in the air. I am visiting Sydney early next year and would be more than happy to bring this book if anybody would like to see it. If after reading this you may know of any aircrew that were billeted in Wellingborough,Northampton and would like to see if I hold their details please do not thesitate to e-mail me.

Many thanks
Andy

RAAF Veterans in World War II, who served in UK, North Africa, Italy and the Mediterranean
I would like to make contact with veterans and their families, of those who served in World War II RAAF squadrons, or individually in the RAF, particularly in the Desert Air Force in Tunisia and Italy, but also in the UK and the Mediterranean. From my initial research I believe RAAF Squadrons Nos 3, 450 and 451 served in the Tunisia and Italy campaigns, flying Tomahawks then subsequently Mustangs and Spitfires, until the end of the war. Of course many Australians served in other air forces, notably in the RAF, and such as 454 Squadron in the Med. I have begun research and writing a book on these air campaigns, which were indispensable to bring victory for the Allied armies in North Africa, Tunisia and Italy, from Operation Torch in November 1942 to May 1945.
My book on the air campaigns in Tunisia and Italy, will have a focus on the role of RAAF squadrons and Australians in the RAF, and tell the story through their voices.
I would welcome the opportunity to meet with RAAF veterans from those times, and their families, to hear and document their stories and experiences.I can be contacted as follows:
